Flooding in Cambodia

Terrifying and heartbreaking are the images on the news programms in South East Asia. Near the borders of Thailand and Cambodia have been a lot of rain. Large parts of Cambodia have been flooded because of much more rain than usual in the raining season.

Besides our projects in Siem Reap, we offer volunteers new opportunities in the countryside of Battambang . This second largest city of Cambodia is a lot less touristic than Siem Reap and gives you a unique insight into the real Cambodian life. Floodings Siem Reap

For the third time this month, the centre of Siem Reap is flooded. The projects in the lower parts of Siem Reap can no longer be reached, and it is getting more and more difficult to reach the other projects. Four of our volunteers will help with the distribution of food in the community of their flooded project. With a tractor they will try to reach the area. For the other volunteers our moto and tuk tuk drivers do their best to get them to their project as dry as possible. Partner project starts Young Adult House

Monday, October 10, all our kids got a new uniform for the Public School. The Public School started one week earlier, but starting a new schoolyear in Cambodia is different from the Netherlands. The first week (sometimes even weeks) mainly consist of meetings of the teachers and recording sessions. We are glad they classify our children again in the morning and afternoon. Since the beginning of the PDC children brush their teeth daily. Important because their teeth have a lot to endure. Brushing with toothpaste is for most people very expensive. In Cambodia people clean themselves at the pump or in a ditch. The children brushed their teeth outside all the time to brush and rinse their mouth with water from the pump. For several weeks the children have been working together with the volunteers. Work, work, work! They made hats, bracelets, necklaces, masks, rattles and skirts and of course they practiced a lot of songs and dances.
