Land of smiles
Thailand offers a perfect combination of culture, sun, beach and nature. There are numerous magnificent temples, beautiful green rice fields, white beaches and a beautiful underwater world. Thailand is known as the land of smiles, due to the friendly and hospitable character of the Thai population.
Important for the Thai people are Buddhism and the monarchy. The royal family is very popular in Thailand and their king is highly respected. They do a lot for the development of Thailand.
Poverty and wealth
Many Thai people benefit from tourism and much of the country lives therefore in reasonable prosperity. The wealth is very unevenly distributed and there are plenty of places in Thailand where people live below the poverty line and don’t have access to (good) education. Given the importance of tourism for Thailand it is extremely important that the children have a good English education. As a volunteer you can make a big contribution to this, and at the same time have a great experience in one of the most popular destinations in Asia!
