Tuesday November 15th was a special day for PURE! for Kids. This day PURE! started with a vocational training program in sewing! With the sewing course girls and women in the community of the PURE! Dream Centre have now the opportunity to follow vocational training in their neighbourhood.
Sixteen women from the community showed their interest. At the actual start fourteen young women turned up for the probation period of 7 weeks in which they will show their motivation, attendance and creativity. Unfortunatly there is limited participation possible. At the end of this period we have to decide with which 10 girls/ women we’re going to continue with.
Monday morning the tuk tuk (way of transport in Cambodia) arrived with all the sewing machines and materials. At the end of the day everything was ready for the start. After talking through the program with the Cambodian teacher we could start the next day. All the students of the 1st group were there. After some explanations and introduction by the teacher and students they could start working on the threadle machine.
Working on a threadle machine might sound a bit odd but here without to much electricity it’s a logical choice. The first lesson mainly consisted on practising on newspaper. During the second lesson the trayed already to make some small things. After almost two weeks we see that the students are serious and willing to learn. Next to that we already see some differences in progress and talent of the students. In January the definite group of ten young women will continue the one year sewing course and gain more chances for a brighter future.
