.…..and once again it was great fun.
What do you need for a successful Sunday morning:
• Two enthusiastic teams, pure A and pure B, consisting of 28 players and 6 supporting classmates
• A lot of equally enthusiastic opponents
• A large number of volunteers who organise this event each year
• Two (slightly smaller than usual) football pitches, you won't hear us complain about grass. If there's not too many holes, then we're happy.
• A couple of nets to create shade, because it's unbearably hot along the touchline.
• Water and snacks (in this case bananas) to make sure the children stay nourished during the morning.
• And a big chariot attached to a motorbike to get all the children to the pitch and back.
The trip together in a chariot is great fun in an off itself. For many of the children it is an amazing experience to go to the busy city full of people, cars and motorbikes. And then you arrive at the football pitch. You see a lot of people but thankfully you also recognise some familiar faces, those of volunteers and the staff.
Both teams played two matches. Just once did we manage to leave the field having scored more goals than the other team, but these were some very talented opponents. And that one victory was achieved by a fantastic goal. A perfect cross by Prean from the right wing only needed to be tapped in by the well placed Sophea.
After the last match everyone was tired. First the long trip home; it's still more than 30 minutes drive back. And then lunch together at the PDC. Everyone went home feeling satisfied and proud.
